In August of this year, the Chair of the Country Autism Network (CAN) will be donning her joggers and active wear in an attempt to run her first ever City to Surf.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, Hollie Hughes has put the call out to supporters of CAN to join Team Hollie for the 14 kilometer run in an effort to raise awareness of CAN as well as much needed funds.
While you are more likely to find Hollie in a boardroom than an athletics track, she has decided to take the plunge this year for many different reasons, saying “It’s important to me that my children, especially Fred who has autism, can see what it looks like when people stand up for a cause, even if that means going completely out of our comfort zone.”
“Continuing to raise much needed funds for rural families dealing with the complexities of Autism and the system that presents itself after diagnosis, remains my number one priority.”
Hollie’s husband Stewart will also be taking the plunge this year to run alongside his wife, as well as dedicated friends and colleagues.
If you would like to join the team, run your own race for CAN or donate to this very special cause and tip your hat off to people who are not your everyday runners as they battle Heartbreak Hill please visit the website here: https://city2surf2018.
And if you need any further motivation to give then please just remember that parents of children with Autism have their own Heartbreak Hill on a daily basis and any support to assist with this battle is always welcome.
